Former Italy and Juventus great Alessandro Del Piero believes that Germany’s World Cup triumph against Argentina was a merited one.
Mario Gotze’s 113th minute winner in Rio de Janeiro sealed the German’s fourth conquest of the coveted trophy and ensured that they are the first European nation to taste World Cup success on South American soil.
“Germany deserved the win,” Del Piero told Sky Sport Italia.
“Compliments to the German side who played the best football at this tournament.”
The former Juventus legend went on to give his view on Lionel Messi, who struggled to influence the final.
“He wasn’t brilliant in the last year with Barcelona and unluckily for him he wasn’t able to help with them win the cup.”
