Former Cagliari sporting director Nicola Salerno is set to be officially announced as director of football with English Championship side Leeds United.

Salerno will be tasked with molding a team together to bring the Elland Road club back to the top flight of English football for the first time since 2004. Current Leeds owner Massimo Cellino had previously stated Salerno would take up the position but nothing was officially announced.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Salerno will sign a two-year contract with the Yorkshire club and has already identified a number of players he would like to bring to the club including Roma midfielder Federico Viviani who is expected to sign on a season long loan deal.

It’s also worth mentioning Salerno turned down an offer in June from newly promoted Serie A side Palermo.
