Carlo TavecchioFIGC presidency candidate Carlo Tavecchio has caused even more controversy after it was discovered that he once labelled women in Italian football as “handicapped”.

La Gazzetta dello Sport discovered footage of Tavecchio in an interview on Italian television back in May this year and he made some unsatisfactory comments when comparing the bodies of male and female footballers.

“We are in this moment leaning out to give dignity as well as an aesthetic respect to women in football,” Tavecchio said on Rai Tre program Report.

“It is because so far a person holds the thought that a women perhaps is a handicapped subject compared to the male in resistance, in stamina as well as in athletic expressions and instead [when] we have them facing each other that they are very similar.”

This discovery has come only days after Tavecchio made a racist remark about foreign players being allowed an easy passage to play in Italy.
