Germany are world champions again. That’s it from me. It’s been a fantastic World Cup and overall Germany probably merited winning the trophy. Good night.

Germany - World Cup 2014

Phillip Lahm lifts the World Cup for Germany

Lahm is now preparing to lift the trophy.

The World Cup winners Germany will now collect their medals and the World Cup trophy.

Now, Argentina are collecting their runners up medals, led by their captain Lionel Messi.

Italian referee Nicola Rizzoli and his colleagues go up to collect their medals.

The Golden Ball somewhat surprisingly goes to Lionel Messi.

The Golden Glove award goes to Manuel Neuer.

FIFA has announced that they will announce their awards shortly.

Players are waiting on the pitch ready to take their medals. Pictures will follow.

That is sadly the end of the World Cup and the conclusion of this live blog. I have thoroughly enjoyed this and I hope you were entertained by the commentary. Deutschland!!

It hasn’t been the best World Cup final in history, Argentina had chances to win it, but it’s Germany who have conquered tonight.

Germany have now equalled Italy in the amount of World Cups won at 4. Brazil have the most with 5.

114- German songs are ringing around the stadium.

113- GOOOAAALLLLL! – GERMANY TAKE THE LEAD – Schurrle crosses the ball into Gotze who chests the ball down and slots past Romero. Germany 1-0 Argentina.

A very even game, will someone be victorious in this extra time period or will it go to penalties? Let me know via twitter @ports96.

Full time. The World Cup final has finished 0-0 and will be going to extra time. Which also means I’m here for another half an hour.

90+1 – Biglia plays a terrible backwards pass straight to Gotze who has a drive from 30 yards out which harmlessly reaches Romero’s gloves.

76- Substitution – Inter man Palacio is replacing Higuain who had a golden chance in the first half and also had a goal disallowed

75- Messi shot- The magician squeezes the ball through three German defenders to Perez who returns the ball to him, Messi then runs to the edge of the box and attempts a curling effort to the far post which goes narrowly wide.

74- The game is very equal, both teams are creating half chances but you would have to say that it’s difficult to call a winner at this point.

73- A high foot from Klose on Mascherano gives Argentina a free kick on the centre circle.

71- Schurrle chance – There’s a scramble in the box and Schurrle can’t get hold of it as the ball rolls to Romero.

69- Mascherano’s delicious long ball finds Rojo on the left wing but his cross fails to beat the first man.

68- Kroos gives away a free kick in the Argentine half as he used his body too forcefully on Perez.

65- Booking – Another booking for Argentina as substitute Aguero takes Schweinsteiger out.

64- Booking – First booking of the night for the Argentines as Mascherano chops down Klose on the halfway line.

63- Corner to Argentina – Messi’s corner is headed by Aguero and it seemed to be deflected but a goal kick is awarded.

59- Klose gets on the end of Lahm’s cross but his header lacked power and was saved with ease by Romero.

56- Neuer gets away with it here. The German goalkeeper crashes into Higuain on the edge of the box in his ‘sweeper keeper’ role but somehow the free kick goes his way.

54- The corner is whipped in by Kroos but Muller commits a foul in the box.

54- Muller gets on the end of a scramble and his cross is sent out for a corner to Germany.

50- Argentina are on the ascendancy here, with a few attacks which have troubled the German defence.

47 – Chance for Argentina – It falls to Messi, and he drags his shot wide from roughly 10 yards out. A player with his ability should have scored.

The second half is about to begin. A substitution for Argentina Aguero on for Lavezzi.

Another tweet this time from @davidthorpe5: “Argentina’s tactic change, I believe will win them this game”

A tweet from @DovSchiavone: “Lazio man Miro Klose to get the winner here #MarkMyWords”

Meanwhile, here is a picture of a few Argentinian fans at the game tonight.

There appears to be a late change from the Germany line up as Khedira is replaced by Kramer. That answers my question!!

The two teams are out on the Estadio Maracana pitch for the two respective national anthems.

It’s almost time, we’re ten minutes from kick off of the biggest game in world football!

Khedira was instrumental in the semi final against Brazil, can he deliver the goods again?
