Germany’s match-winner Mario Gotze has revealed that a dream has come true for his nation following their extra-time victory over Argentina at the Maracana on Sunday.

The 22-year-old was subbed in for Miroslav Klose on 88 minutes, and won Die Mannschaft their first World Cup since 1990, when they also beat La Albiceleste.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling,” he said after picking up the Budweiser Man of the Match award.

“I don’t know how to describe it. I just took the shot and didn’t know what was happening. It’s unbelievable.

“For us, the dream has become reality. I’m very proud of the team and extremely happy about everything that happened in Brazil.

“Every player in our team deserves the glory and we’re very proud to have won this trophy.”

Germany claimed the fourth World Cup title in their history having scored 18 goals and conceded just four times in their seven outings in Brazil.
