Udinese sporting director Cristiano Giaretta recently held his first press conference at the Stadio Friuli, where he discussed strategy and tactics for the 2014/2015 season.

The former Udinese player reflected on both the past and upcoming seasons, addressing issues that faced the Zebrettes in the past and solutions for the future.

“We [Udinese] are looking for a midfielder adept at both stages and are able to build the game,” Giaretta promised.

“We are looking for a guy with strong legs, good in the two phases, who also knows how to act as a playmaker.

“The search difficult, but we have more players in mind with these characteristics.”

Giaretta recognized current Udinese players, who have the potential into stepping up into more leadership roles, especially in defense, an area that was arguably the weakest last season.

Praising Igor Bubnjic, who only played seven games last season, Giaretta stated, “the Croatian is growing and we rely on him.”

He also expressed his high hopes in Udinese latest signing of Nicola Belmonte.

“Belmonte has loads of experience with 50 appearances in Serie A and numerous in [Serie] B. In this department we are covered. ”

Giaretta also discussed criticism over Udinese’s robust goalkeeper roster, which current has seven available goalkeepers.

“We have our ideas, but we want to give the coach the opportunity to make an overall assessment,” he concluded.

Giaretta, who joined Udinese earlier this year, replaced Fabrizio Larini after he stepped down from the sporting director position.
