Fiorentina forward Mario Gomez has expressed his delight and offered praise for Germany after their recent 7-1 demolition of hosts Brazil.

The former-Bayern Munich forward, with 59 international caps and 25 goals to his name, was not selected to Joachim Loew’s squad for the 2014 World Cup after an injury-plagued two years since scoring three goals at Euro 2012.

Nevertheless, he revealed his pleasure in his team-mates South American exploits in a recent interview with Sky Sport Italia.

“Germany were marvellous, they are a very strong team,” the Viola hitman stated.

“My team-mates were perfect and we put on a great performance.

Gomez was one of European football’s deadliest attackers priorĀ  Euro 2012, scoring 94 in 142 games during three seasons for Bayern before moving to Fiorentina last summer.

Gomez’s progress, and Germany’s lack of forward options, did make him an outsider for a wild-card inclusion in Joachim Low’s squad – but he ultimately missed out, with Low uncertain that Gomez’s fitness could be relied upon throughout the tournament.
