Despite being in talks to sign Cagliari defender Davide Astori, Lazio could yet miss out after Inter entered the bidding for the player.

Italian international Astori has been linked with numerous clubs over the last two years with Southampton almost signing the player in January only for the deal to fall through.

It had seemed Lazio had stolen a march on their rivals and were seen to be close to acquiring the player but according to Sky Sport Italia, Inter have entered negotiations at the last minute and are willing to send Astori back to Sardinia for the coming season on loan.

The Nerazzurri have been discussing multiple loans with the Isolani over the past few weeks and are believed to have brought up Astori’s situation, as well as that of teammate Victor Ibarbo, with a view of acquiring the player now and loaning him back for the coming season.

Lazio have been ambitious on the transfer market so far this summer, bringing in Italian international midfielder Marco Parolo and Serbian striker Filip Djordjevic, and are looking to strengthen a defence that has lost both Andre Dias and Giuseppe Biava.
