AC Milan coach Filippo Inzaghi believes his side did all that they could despite falling to a 3-0 defeat to Olympiacos in the opening game of the Guinness International Champions Cup in Toronto on Thursday night.

The match at BMO Field acted as an early test for the new coach who replaced former teammate Clarence Seedorf earlier this summer, though the former Italian international was quick to downplay the result.

“The negative is the result,” he admitted in a post-match interview.

“But the positive is that they tried to play a good game.”

The former striker also acknowledged the challenges that his team faced coming into the match, which included a poor travel schedule and no training time.

“The team arrived at 2am from New York and have been travelling the last two days. They have not had a chances to train. The players tried their best.”

However, despite the strain on the team during the tournament, Inzaghi did nod to the merits of international games.

“It’s important for Milan to come to North America, because we have a lot of fans around the world.

“Also we can play against good teams so it’s a good chance to play good games.”
