Inter defender Jonathan has revealed that the Biscione are training hard for the upcoming season and insisted that the club’s executives will continue strengthening the team this summer as they aim to make it back into the Champions League.

The Nerazzurri landed a spot in the Europa League for the 2014-15 campaign after securing a fifth place Serie A finish last term, but the 28-year-old admits that the main objective is to reach the top three next season and possibly even win a Scudetto.

Jonathan spoke to Sky Sport Italia about Inter’s preparations this summer and the signing of fellow Brazilian defender Dodo from Roma, while also commenting on Brazil’s devastating 7-1 loss to Germany in the World Cup semi-finals on Tuesday.

“The feeling is good at Inter, we are charged and confident for this next season,” said the Brazilian.

“We want to train hard and get ready for the beginning of the new campaign. We believe that Inter should always play to get into the Champions League and to win the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia, because this is a great club.

“The leadership is trying to strengthen the team and they’re making good moves toward some potential signings. Players of quality and experience like [Nemanja] Vidic will arrive, but younger talents who are also useful to our plan will come and they’ll be able to help us continuing growing after this season, during which we will have changed a lot at all levels.

“Dodo? I know he’s happy to be here even though we haven’t talked yet, but there will still be a lot of time to get to know him.

“The environment here is very good and everyone will help him fit in within the shortest time possible.

“Brazil’s loss to Germany? It was a big disappointment for us Brazilians because we thought we had a strong team, but the absence of Thiago Silva and Neymar had caused many complications on a psychological level.

“Germany dominated and played better, they deserved to win. We were hoping for a different outcome, but now we just have to look forward to the future.”
