Inter defender Juan Jesus is adamant that he and his team-mates must step up their performances now that veterans Javier Zanetti and Esteban Cambiasso have left the club this summer.

The 23-year-old is already confident that the Nerazzurri can succeed next season with the help from players like Andrea Ranocchia, who is set to become the Milan side’s new captain, and Mateo Kovacic, though he admits that the arrival of Nemanja Vidic will also benefit the squad in their mission to improve.

Juan Jesus spoke to Inter Channel about the departure of Zanetti and Cambiasso and the impact it may have on the club, while also praising some of his team-mates for what they add to the squad.

“The rest of us must take responsibility, now that Zanetti and Cambiasso are not here to do it, now it’s only us,” said the Brazilian.

“We will try our best to bring Inter to as high a level as possible, where the team deserves to be.

“I’m glad the Ranocchia will become captain, he’s a great friend. He’s the right man, he’s calm, the responsibility of the group is in good hands.

“Vidic? We speak a bit of English and Portuguese together, he understands it. Things are going well, he’s learning the way to play now that he’s part of a new team in a different league.

“He will have a great season. His experience will be a help, along with his strength. We are a team and we must help each other and leave our hearts on the field, we must do everything to win because Inter cannot go on for too many years without winning anything.

“I also bet on Kovacic doing well. He has great quality, he’s a player who thinks, plus is also agile, and this upcoming season he will impress everyone. With him we can protect the ball and play calmly.”
