Wing back Stephan Lichtsteiner is no closer to a contract renewal with Juventus, despite his current deal expiring next summer.

The Swiss international joined Juventus from Lazio in 2011 and has been a mainstay of the side ever since, winning three consecutive Serie A titles with the Old Lady.  But, his time in Turin may be drawing to a close with the news that a contract renewal does not seem to be close.

Lichtsteiner’s agent, Federico Pastorello, told the press, “At present, the parties are quite far apart.

“We met and discussed the contract over the last few months but we have yet to find an agreement.

“His contract currently expires in 2015. A transfer? I believe he will remain at Juventus regardless but the contract issue needs to be settled.”

Lichtsteiner is seen as an important part of new Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri’s plans, particularly with the seemingly inevitable sale of the defender’s back up in the squad, Mauricio Isla.
