Lazio have confirmed the signing of Dutch defender Stefan de Vrij from Feyenoord for a fee in the region of €9 million.
The 22-year-old is set to become an integral member of Stefano Pioli’s new regime at the Stadio Olimpico after having an excellent World Cup in Brazil this summer which prompted many clubs to scramble for his signature and eventually resulted in a move to Rome.
“I had to think for a long time about the decision to move to Lazio,” de Vrij told Feyenoord’s official website. “After a lot of talks with many people in Rome, Lazio gave me a superb feeling and now that I have signed, it feels great and I am very happy with this step in my career.
“In Italy I hope to become a versatile defender. I will play against world class strikers. I am proud of being part of the Feyenoord family, but after many years here I am looking forward to the next challenge.”
Lazio officially announced his purchase through their official twitter account, revealing that the player will be presented at 11:00 on Thursday at the Centro Sportivo di Formello alongside another new signing, midfielder Marco Parolo.
