Liverpool will set their sights on signing either Arturo Vidal or Paul Pogba after reports claimed Brendan Rodgers still has a huge budget at his disposal.

The club are eager to secure a world-class player in the wake of Luis Suarez’s sale to Barcelona and will use the funds from that transfer to press ahead with their pursuit of the Juventus duo.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Liverpool are set to fight rivals Manchester United for the signature of highly-rated Arturo Vidal as the Chilean playmaker remains open to a move to the Premier League.

The fact that Liverpool can guarantee Champions League football next season may prove a decisive factor as the two clubs go head-to-head.

Paul Pogba would represent another significant investment, with the 21-year-old valued at €70 million by the Italian club. However, Rodgers is desperate to improve on last season’s second-placed finish and views the former Manchester United man as the type of player who could add power, creativity and quality to his midfield.

Another name rumoured to be on Liverpool’s transfer wishlist is Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus, however they face stiff competition from Bayern Munich to sign the German star.
