Germany coach Joachim Loew has maintained that his side can make history on Sunday in the World Cup final against Argentina.

The Germans are seeking their fourth World Cup trophy on Sunday where they will face Argentina at the Estadio Marcana in Rio de Janeiro.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference, Loew said that ‘time will tell’ whether this side is at its finest hour, while also saying that his side will win if they play their game.

“Time will tell,” he said. “We have players at the highest point in their careers.

“However, we have others who have an extraordinary future ahead of them, such as [Marco] Reus who is not with us, [Manuel] Neuer, and [Sami] Khedira.

“For the moment, however, we need to focus only on tomorrow; then we’ll see who we can bet on in the future.

Regarding Germany’s opponents in the game, Loew said that he does not fear La Albiceleste, whilst also praising his opposition’s improvement from the previous World Cup in 2010.

“I do not fear Argentina whatsoever,” he said. “We think we can tap into our potential and if we impose our game, we will win.

“In this tournament Argentina have shown great performances, they’re also stronger in defence than in 2010.

“Their team is not only about [Lionel] Messi, and that would be a mistake [to think so].

“However, regardless of what happens it’s all about winning; we know we can write history.

“The two teams are going to face off at the same level but I think we have the necessary self-confidence after our previous games.

Despite registering interesting results such as the 7-1 win against Brazil and the 4-0 win against Portugal – the coach was still asked about Germany’s 2-1 win over Algeria, where his team struggled to achieve the result.

“My experience tells me that in a tournament like this, you can not play well every match and win them all,” Low said.

“Against Algeria we struggled, but we knew what our mistakes were and we have learned from these.”
