Napoli defender Christian Maggio has revealed that his first priority is to perform well for the Azzurri and he insists that he isn’t worried about renewing his contract.

The 32-year-old, whose current contract with the Partenopei is set to expire in June 2015, admits that he’s only focused on pleasing the Neapolitan fans and helping his team achieve success during the 2014-15 campaign.

Maggio spoke to the press while meeting with some fans in Folgaria on Wednesday about his future in Naples and praised the club’s supporters for always backing Napoli no matter what.

“I’ve been with Napoli for seven years, so this must mean something,” said the Italy international. “It’s normal that after so many years they’re expected to look to the future and improve.

“My first thought is to do well for Napoli. I’m not thinking of a new contract, we will see what happens in the future.

“The Neapolitan fans are so unique. They always follow us, at home and away, and this is a sign of positivity.

“They are fundamental to our success, especially away from home. And they give us one more incentive to do well.”
