Manchester City defender admits he was close to leaving

Aleksandar Kolarov has revealed that he was close to leaving Manchester City and signing for an Italian club.

The former Lazio player was heavily linked over the past year with a move back to Serie A, but coach Manuel Pellegrini’s arrival and a string of consistent performances for City, that eventually led to them being crowned Premier League champions, changed his mind.

“In the past I have read on various sites and newspapers that I was close to sign for Juventus, Inter and Roma,” he told the press.

“But the truth is that I was only close to move to one team, but it’s now gone and I am happy to be with City.”

Kolarov also expressed his desire to keep winning trophies with the Manchester club, after signing a new four year contract that extends till 2016.

“Our goals is always the same and that is to win the Premier League and the Champions League,” he continued.

“This year we should do something more in Europe and I am sure that with the proper reinforcements we can.”

The 28-year-old then went onto the say a few words about the Rossoneri.

“They have some margins of improvement and hopefully they can make a great season,” he concluded.

Kolarov played 30 times for Manchester City last season, providing one goal and eight assists.
