Manchester United’s pursuit of Arturo Vidal may have hit a stumbling block after sources revealed it would take a bid of €56 million for Juventus to consider selling the midfielder.

Vidal has been on United’s radar for a long time, as they enquired about his availability last summer when David Moyes was in charge and again in January.

Vidal is thought to be open to the idea of a move, however, sources indicate that Juventus would remain extremely reluctant to sell one of their star performers even if the asking price is met, but would want a minimum of €56m, ESPN revealed.

Manchester United have spent €75m in the last week as their extensive recruitment programme gather apace and they now have their sights set on what they believe to be a big name player.

Nicknamed Il Guerriero for his tenacious style of play, Vidal would represent not only star quality for the English club but a key position filled as the hierarchy are desperate to recruit a genuine box-to-box midfielder that possesses match-winning attributes.

Vidal has been instrumental in Juventus winning three Serie A titles in a row and was also named Juventus player of the year in the 2012/13 season.
