Manchester United defender Patrice Evra agreed to join Juventus on Thursday night, and will officially sign a contract on Friday.

United made a last ditch effort to keep the player at the club but the Frenchman has opted instead for a move to Italy.

Sky Sport Italia reports that the deal will be confirmed on Friday, with Evra set to link up with the Bianconeri late for pre-season training after playing at the World Cup.

The Guardian claims that the 33-year-old will move to Turin for around €3 million on a two-year deal worth €60,000 per week.

Evra signed a new one-year contract with United during the last campaign but it is believed that his wife was keen to leave Manchester for personal reasons.

The Red Devils completed the signing of 18-year-old left-back Luke Shaw from Southampton last month for €37 million, and so Evra’s place in the team would no longer be guaranteed, another reason which has likely encouraged his decision to leave Old Trafford.

Old Lady coach Antonio Conte is keen to convert to a 4-3-3 formation this year and so the capture of a left-back was made a priority with current left wing-back Kwadwo Asamoah seen as more of an attacking option rather than a defensive player.

Evra played 273 times in eight seasons with United, winning five Premier League titles and a Champions League in 2008.
