Juventus director general Giuseppe Marotta has given the strongest indication yet that Arturo Vidal will remain with the club, saying he would be “surprised” if he were to leave.

Speaking to the press at a press conference to unveil new signing Roberto Pereyra, Marotta said there was a mutual desire between the club and player to continue their relationship.

“I would be surprised [if Vidal were to leave], I do not think so and I do not think it will happen,” Marotta stated despite the Chilean being linked with a move to Manchester United.

“We are pleased to date but the market is still open. I can confirm we are looking for another forward.

“Whether the target is [Samuel] Eto’o or someone else, I prefer not to say.”

Vidal has scored 40 goals in 126 games for the Bianconeri since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2011.
