Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella has confirmed that he may use regular defender Gonzalo Rodriguez as a regista this coming season.
The Viola crushed San Marino 6-0 in a friendly on Tuesday and Montella used the match to try out different experiments for the campaign ahead, including Gonzalo as a deep lying midfield play-maker.
“The first half was definitely more intense than the second [half],” Montella told FirenzeViola.it after the match.
“The signs are always there and these matches are used to evaluate many things from both the tactical and physical point of view. I saw a lot of positive things anyway.
“[Gonzalo as a regista?] Who knows, for now the evaluation is done to understand if he can become a solution in that role in the future. He has all the attributes to do it but his position rests centrally for now.”
