Jose Mourinho - ChelseaChelsea boss Jose Mourinho believes Cesare Prandelli should’ve stayed on as Italy coach, despite the dismal World Cup campaign.

The now former Azzurri tactician resigned almost immediately after the 1-0 loss to Uruguay that condemned Italy to crashing out of Brazil, but Mourinho hopes that the former Viola coach can be convinced into changing his mind and rejoining the Azzurri set-up.

“I think that first of all, that they should start again with Prandelli, the same coach,” Mourinho told Yahoo. “Italian football was not going through a great period and he fixed the team after the [World Cup] disaster of 2010.

“He also did well at Euro 2012 and at the Confederations Cup and he must remain to continue his work.”

Luciano Spalletti, Max Allegri and Roberto Mancini have emerged as favourites to take over the vacant national team coaching job in recent weeks.
