Sampdoria defender Shkodran Mustafi says he is still coming to terms with being a World Cup winner following Germany’s success at Brazil 2014.

The 22-year-old also said that he is recovering from the thigh injury that he picked up against Algeria ahead of the 2013-14 Serie A season and that he should be able to start running in training soon.

“It’s simply incredible, I’m only 22-years-old, this year I made my international debut and now just a few months later and I’m already a World Champion,” said  Mustafi to Torgranata.de.

“I still can’t quite get my head around everything that has happened.”

The former Everton player also spoke about the recovery process that he is still undergoing.

“I already seem to be better,” he continued.

“After the final whistle I could run onto the pitch and celebrate.

“After I return to Germany I will get a visit from Dr Muller-Wohlfart.

“If he gives me the thumbs up I will be able to start with some gentle jogging.”
