Orlando City president Flavio Augusto da Silva has confirmed that negotiations for AC Milan forward Robinho are currently ongoing.

The 30-year-old has been expected to follow former Rossoneri team-mate Kaka over to the MLS side in recent days and the club’s president now admits that a transfer is in the works and seems likely to be finalised in the coming weeks.

Da Silva spoke to Radio Bandeirantes about the talks between Orlando City and Milan and praised Robinho, while also commenting on the possibility of the forward joining a different club on loan until the start of the 2015 MLS season.

“We haven’t bought Robinho yet, but we are talking with AC Milan and we believe he will be a great reinforcement for our team,” said the Orlando City chief.

“He’s a great player, he just turned 30, he’s very motivated and has shown that he really wants to play for our club.

“Will he go somewhere else on loan for six months like Kaka? I respect the desire of the player very much. Kaka going on loan to Sao Paulo was his own decision.

“If we are able to buy Robinho, his fate for the next six months would be up to him.”
