Arjen Robben spoke of his regret that the Netherlands did not progress further after the Dutch team finished the World Cup in third place.

The Oranje thrashed the hosts Brazil 3-0 on Saturday evening in the third-place playoff but Robben felt that his side deserved more.

“This is a nice way to finish the World Cup with a win, It helps wash away a little of the bitterness, but disappointment continues to be the dominating sensation,” said Robben to NOS after the game.

“I am empty, Could we have played like this against Argentina? No, it’s a different game, Brazil give you more space.”

“We gave everything and I am so very proud.

“It’s a pleasure to work with all these players, I just feel we deserved to be in the Final.

“At least we and everyone in the Netherlands can enjoy this World Cup bronze medal.”

The winger still has a chance of winning the Golden Ball as FIFA listed its candidates before the game.

Robben also spoke about Louis van Gaal who was in charge of his last game as Netherlands coach tonight.

“I have a special bond with him, This was already in his time as coach of Bayern Munich.”

“He is the most important coach in my career.”

The Oranje are the fourth team in World Cup history to exit the tournament undefeated after seven games.
