Roma and Juventus transfer target Matija Nastasic looks set to stay at Manchester City next season.

The 21-year-old Serbian international center back only played 17 times in all competitions for the Citizens last season, with injury and the form of Martin Demichelis keeping him out of the team.

The previous season, Nastasic proved a revelation for City, starting 21 games in the Premier League alone following his big money move from Fiorentina. Nastasic is still thought of very highly in the peninsula following his spell with the Viola and it was believed that both The Old Lady and I Lupi were considering bids this summer.

Such bids have been discouraged by Manuel Pellegrini’s men, according to the Manchester Evening News, with City intent on keeping the young defender.

Roma were said to be leading the chase for the Serbian with sporting director Walter Sabatini believed to have requested him as part of any deal that would take in demand Roma center back Mehdi Benatia to the Etihad Stadium. However Juventus hold a long standing interest in the player and would have rivaled any Roma move with a straight cash bid for the player.

Juventus will almost certainly sign a central defender this summer with Andrea Barzagli suffering an injury and both Martín Cáceres and Angelo Ogbonna failing to convince when called upon by Antonio Conte.
