Roma are still locked in negotiations with Lille for Montenegrin defender Marko Basa but remain confident a deal can be completed.
With star defender Mehdi Benatia’s future still in doubt, Giallorossi coach Rudi Garcia is scouring the continent for reinforcements and has turned to his former club for aid.
Tuttomercatoweb reports that Roma are hoping that the 29 year old Basa will push for a move away from the French club in order to persuade Lille to sell.
Lille coach Rene Girard would rather keep the centre back but Basa has made it known he would like to reunite with Garcia and continue his career in Rome.
A deal is expected to be completed in the next couple of weeks, with a fee in the vicinity of €3 million being mooted.
