Roma’s new signing DeAndre Yedlin has stated that he wants to become one of the world’s best players after completing a move to the Giallorossi.

The American impressed at the World Cup in Brazil, and while he won’t join up with his new club until next season, he stated that he does not want to get carried away but instead work hard to win the confidence of his new employers.

“I feel free,” he said, according to VoceGiallorossa.it.

“When I am on a football field, I am myself and that’s the main thing. Of course I listen to the opinions of people: some positive, some negative, but to be honest I don’t worry about it.

“I know what kind of players there are [in Europe] and the only thing that matters is what my teammates and my coach wants from me.”

The 21-year-old then discussed the importance of remaining focused despite getting plenty of attention during the World Cup in Brazil.

“The attention after the World Cup? The important thing now is to stay focused. I don’t want to carry the money, holidays and personal life in the spotlight; only the football.

“I’m not the type who spends the day with friends. I am determined, I train 12 hours a day because I try to be available for the team and ensure that the team has confidence in me.

“There are hundreds of players better than me and I know I have to work hard to become the type of player I want to become.”

Yedlin, considered one of the brightest prospects in American soccer, has seven caps for his country. He is also the only rookie to feature in an MLS All-Star team since 2005.
