Sampdoria goalkeeper Sergio Romero has revealed that he would like to make a permanent move to Monaco this summer.

The 27-year-old, who spent the 2013-14 campaign on loan with the Ligue 1 club, has been strongly linked with a move to Benfica in recent weeks though negotiations between the Blucerchiati and the Portuguese side have slowed due to the player’s desire to move back to France.

Romero spoke to the Argentine media about his hopes of returning to Monaco for the 2014-15 campaign and remained humble when commenting on his impressive World Cup performances for Argentina.

“I would go back to Monaco because my daughters do not want to part with their classmates,” said the Argentina international, who arrived at Sampdoria in 2011.

“I’ve spoken on the phone and remained in contact with many of my friends that I left there and I hope to return to play for the club.

“I’m not a star, but only a goalkeeper. The other players are the ones who can be considered stars.”
