Sampdoria look set to replace Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero and they intend to replace him with Palermo goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano.

Viviano spent last season on loan from the Rosanero at English club Arsenal and although he did not play a competitive match for the Gunners, this has not deterred Samp from trying to sign him.

Sportitalia report that Viviano would move to the Doriani on loan with the option to buy and the deal could be completed this week.

Current Sampdoria coach Sinisa Mihajlovic has an interest in the goalkeeper. Although he has not coached 28-year-old previously, Mihajlovic has coached Bologna and Fiorentina, two clubs that Viviano have played for in the past.

Palermo bought Viviano in 2012 and he played in 20 Serie A matches for the Rosanero. He spent the 2012-13 season with Fiorentina before spending the last campaign sitting on the bench for the Gunners.
