Juventus striker Carlos Tevez has denied telling director Giuseppe Marotta not to appoint Roberto Mancini as coach of the side.

Reports circulated on Wednesday that the Argentine would’ve left the Bianconeri had they appointed his former coach at Manchester City, however the striker was quick to dismiss such rumours.

Speaking in a press conference in Vinovo, Tevez said that journalists who write such stories “should have more respect.”

“I never spoke with Marotta about the matter,” he said. “The club is based on respect and I doubt the thoughts of a player could change anything.

“Those who write such stories should have more respect.”

The former Manchester City man then went on to praise former coach Antonio Conte, in addition to denying that he considered leaving the club.

“We need to be stronger and prove that we belong at Juve,” he said. “I never considered leaving.

“Conte is a champion as a coach just as he was during his playing career.

“I didn’t know [Massimiliano] Allegri as a coach, but I think we are working well now.

“We know the fans loved Conte, but we have to focus on training in order to prepare for Serie A and the UEFA Champions League.”

The striker then went on to say that the Argentine national team could have won the 2014 FIFA World Cup had he been in the side, stating that Alejandro Sabella’s men failed to finish off their chances in their loss against Germany in the final.

“We could have won the World Cup,” he said. “We were better than Germany, but we lost because we couldn’t finish off our chances.”

Tevez then concluded his words by saying that the current crop of Juventus players can challenge for the UEFA Champions League in the upcoming 2014/2015 season.

“With the team we have I think we can bring joy to Juventus fans.” said Tevez.

It is also worth mentioning that Tevez was the third-highest goalscorer in the 2013/2014 Serie A season with 19 goals, helping the Bianconeri to achieve a third straight Scudetto in his maiden season with the club.
