Netherlands coach played Louis van Gaal paid tribute to his squad following their 3-0 victory over hosts Brazil in the third-place playoff of World Cup 2014.

Van Gaal will now leave his role as Oranje coach to take a seat on the bench at Manchester United.

“This is by far the best group I’ve ever coached,” said van Gaal in his post-match comments.

“How they all deal with each other and all pull in the same direction.”

“They have an incredible record of goals scored compared to goals conceded.”

Van Gaal also spoke more specifically about the 3-0 win over Brazil in Brasilia:

“The way we started was great, we deserved the win like no other.”

“The Brazilians gave away a lot of space.

“We were very solid in midfield and got the ball to Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben much more than in the previous game.”

The Netherlands coach also admitted that he brought Michel Vorm on as a late substitute as he was keen to see the Netherlands take the record as the first team to use every member of their 23-man squad in a World Cup finals:

“I was happy we were able to do that, but the squad asked for it, so this wasn’t all my decision.”

“I told Vorm that if we were 2-0 up, he’d get time on the pitch.”
