Ex-Italy international Gianluca Vialli has hailed the victorious project led by tactician Joachim Loew, as his Germany side lifted the 2014 World Cup.

Mario Goetze hit the only goal in extra-time, as the Germans beat Argentina 1-0 in a keenly contested final at the Maracana.

Vialli, working for Sky Sport Italia said, “It was a great game played at a high tempo, which was surprising given it was their seventh game in four weeks. Argentina could have won but it was Germany who have now crowned the work done by Joachim Loew.”

On discussing game specifics, the former Sampdoria forward said, “The difference was the substitutions.”

Vialli played 59 times for the Azzurri, scoring 16 goals.  He also had coaching spells in the England with both Chelsea and Watford.
