Roma’s Bosnian midfielder Miralem Pjanic is widely regarded as one of Serie A’s finest players, and in a pre-season match against Manchester United he scored a truly spectacular goal from inside his own half.

In the 75th minute, AS Roma were 3-0 down to Louis Van Gaal’s side, and so Pjanic, more than 60 yards from goal, spotted United ‘keeper Ben Amos off his line, and unleashed a brilliant lob shot over the ‘keeper’s head that left onlookers completely stunned. Out of absolutely nothing, he had scored a magnificent goal.

“It was a world-class goal,” said Roma coach Rudi Garcia. “I am sure we will see it throughout the world. He had a training session on Friday with the Denver Broncos.”

It turns out Pjanic had been filmed practicing this very skill in an NFL training session, and so his long range efforts were practiced.

Pjanic has scored many wonder goals during his Roma career; majestic free kicks against Napoli and Lazio, his brilliant lob against Hellas or the sublime solo goal against AC Milan, but this strike was undoubtedly his best. Unfortunately it proved just a consolation as Roma would lose 3-2.
