Ahead of the commencement of their upcoming Serie A campaign against Lazio on Sunday AC Milan full-back Ignazio Abate has reiterated that the players understand that it is their responsibility to win back the disillusioned Rossoneri fans after a disappointing season last term.

However, after the exit of Mario Balotelli to Liverpool led some to question the clubs transfer policy the full-back told supporters not to underestimate the signings made so far and with Fernando Torres set to join on loan suggested that vice-president Adriano Galliani could still spring a surprise before Mondays deadline.

“The feelings are positive,” Abate told Milan Channel.

“It is the start a new season and we are convinced that we can do well. We have to work day after day with our heads down to improve. We must regain our fans with desire and humility.

“We fight for every ball and until the 90th minute we can do great things.

“I believe that we are fortunate to have a great coach. He has a very humble character and possessed DNA.

“We are trying to create in the Rossoneri locker room the principles that were lost.

“The match against Lazio will be difficult and they are dangerous. It is going to be a balanced game, to battle for every ball, and needing to start on the right foot.

“It is up to us to regain the fans, the club has set up a good team.  The purchases of Alex and [Jeremy] Menez should not be underestimated and then missing the last few trading days Galliani will always amaze us.”
