Inter defender Marco Andreolli says his side have accomplished their first goal for the campaign by qualifying for the Europa League group stages.

A 6-0 victory at San Siro on Thursday night saw his side cruise past Stjarnan and the former Chievo man was pleased with their evening’s work, in particular the hat-trick scored by Mateo Kovacic.

“It was important to try and accomplish this first objective of the season and we have succeeded,” he said when speaking to Mediaset Premium.

“On paper, the games might seem easy but you must always be focused and have the right determination. I am glad for Mateo too and I hope this signals great things for him.

“But we are already now thinking of our important game against Torino.”

Coach Walter Mazzarri has tinkered between his favoured three man defence and a four man system throughout pre-season and the centre-back is excited by both.

“For me, to play in a three or four man defence, changes little to be honest,” Andreolli continued. “I know both systems and it is so important that you understand the movements that you must do in each.”

A man Andreolli will be fighting with for a place in the side this season is new arrival Nemanja Vidic and he was glowing in his praise of the former Manchester United man.

“Vidic is a smart guy with such great charisma. He settled into the team immediately and helps us every day. He has won so much in Europe too and is a great champion.”
