Reports in Italy suggest that Arsenal have stepped up their pursuit of Torino’s Alessio Cerci as the club look to bolster their attacking options.

With striker Olivier Giroud set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining an ankle injury last weekend, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen on bringing in reinforcements before the transfer window closes next week.

While 27-year-old Cerci is certainly not in the same mould as out-and-out striker Giroud, Tuttosport suggest that Wenger intends to deploy new signing Alexis Sanchez in the centre of his side’s attack in order to accommodate Cerci in his preferred wide role.

If true, the revised system would certainly make any move to London a good fit for Cerci but Torino will still be eager to keep hold of one of their key players.

In the 2013/14 season, the Italy forward finished with 13 goals and 12 assists in his 37 Serie A appearances and, at 27, he is undoubtedly now in his prime.
