New Roma signing Davide Astori has insisted that he didn’t go out of his way to turn down an offer from Lazio and only chose a move to the Lupi instead.

The 27-year-old, who joined the Giallorossi from Cagliari on a season-long loan deal in July, was reportedly in advanced talks with the Biancocelesti before making his switch to Rudi Garcia’s side though he claims that he hadn’t rejected any offers ahead of his decision to sign with Roma.

Astori spoke to Il Messaggero about his move to Roma coming at the proper time and praised coach Garcia, while also commenting on his rocky past with AC Milan.

“I have only chosen to join Roma, I haven’t rejected anyone,” said the Italian defender. “I arrived to a big club at the right time.

“Cagliari doesn’t tend to get rid of its players quickly like other clubs, but lets them leave once they have matured.

“My debut in the Champions League? I feel the excitement already, it will be an indescribable emotion.

“Rudi Garcia? He is exactly how everyone says he is. He talks a lot with the players, gives advice, he is good in identifying delicate situations on the pitch and is attentive to details.

“Is it time for me to have revenge on Milan? Partially yes, my history with them has remained within me. Today I’d have to say ‘thank you’ to the Rossoneri because technically they have brought me to Roma.”
