After the astonishing scenes during the Coppa Italia Third Round contest between Bari and Avellino Biancorosso striker Giuseppe De Luca, who was sent-off after retaliating to an apparent bite by Gianmario Como and protesting to the match official, has received a two match ban from the FIGC.
With 54 minutes played and defending an Avellino free-kick Comi appeared to bite De Luca who then threw the 22-year-old to the ground before protesting furiously and shown a red card for his objections.
“I have had the wrong reaction and I apologise to the club, my colleagues and the fans for leaving the team with ten [men], but I never expected to receive a bitten by an opponent,” De Luca told fcbari1908.
“A game, even a violent one, is part of the sport, but episodes as a vile as a bite or spit should not be tolerated.
“I overreacted and I was wrong. A player of my experience should not fall into traps like this, but I was surprised by the gesture of Comi.”
