Bari striker Giuseppe De Luca was seemingly bitten by Gianmario Comi during the Coppa Italia match against Avellino.

The two Serie B sides were facing off in the Third Round of the competition which Avellino won 2-1.

However, around ten minutes into the second half Comi appeared to bite De Luca who protested furiously and was show a red card for his objections, as the referee didn’t appear to see the incident.

Then, just moments later, in a cruel twist of fate, Comi scored to level the game at 1-1.

Following the match, Bari published the photo below on their website, along with a statement from president Gianluca Paparesta which read:

“We [Bari] don’t want controversy, but we want to draw attention to incidents such as Comi’s bite on De Luca.

“Bari deserves respect, like all clubs.

“I will continue to work because the public and players have to act in the correct way, no one should think of coming here and doing as they want.

“That said, compliments to Avellino on reaching the next round.”
