New Fiorentina signing Jose Maria Basanta has revealed that joining the Gigliati has been an important step for his career and expressed his hopes of winning a title with the Serie A side.

The 30-year-old defender, who helped Argentina achieve a second place finish in the World Cup earlier this summer, completed his move from Mexican side Monterrey to the Viola on Friday and he insists that he’s motivated to give his all for the Italian team.

Basanta spoke to Viola Channel about his decision to sign with Fiorentina and thanked the club and its supporters for the warm welcome he’s received.

“Coming here is a very important step for my career,” said the Argentina international. “I have a lot of enthusiasm knowing that I’ve arrived at a team that wants to win.

“I’m very motivated and happy to have landed at such a model club. I’ll give my best to help achieve all the objectives of this club together with my team-mates.

“I already know some of the players here, such as Facundo Roncaglia and Gonzalo Rodriguez. I thank you all for the warm welcome here and I hope to win a title in this shirt.”
