Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini met with Mehdi Benatia’s agent Moussa Sissoko with reports that Bayern Munich are unwilling to meet the Italian club’s demands for the defender.

The Italian club are keen to keep the 27-year-old who was an integral part of their defence in his debut season as they finished second in the Serie A, and are thought to be positive after the talks concluded on Tuesday with the Moroccan offered a new improved contract.

The Corriere della Sera reports that Bayern are willing to offer only €25 million plus bonuses over a period of two years for the defender with the Giallorossi considering the bid too low, as they hold out for their initial asking price of €30m.

Benatia missed training on Tuesday as Roma look to avoid jeopardising a potential transfer and the Italian club have a contingency plan ready in Manchester City’s Matija Nastasic.
