AC Milan defender Daniele Bonera believes that the Diavolo are on the right track to have a successful season under new coach Pippo Inzaghi, though he admits that there’s still some work to be done.

The Rossoneri have had an ultimately poor pre-season this summer, having lost a majority of their friendly matches, but the 33-year-old is looking past these obvious problems and insists that the Italian side have still been improving their game despite the unimpressive results.

Bonera spoke to Milan Channel about the troubles AC Milan have faced throughout the summer while also expressing his positive outlook for the upcoming season.

“We should not focus on these results,” said the Italian. “This summer has been so full of problems, from accidents and falls to late coaching changes, so getting bad results may happen.

“If we’re to be honest, though, sometimes the results were also unfair. Even against Valencia we were punished in certain episodes, which then influence other judgements and the results.

“We’re still able to appreciate a team that has improved in many aspects, such as handling the ball in both the offensive and defensive departments.

“There is still a lot of work to be done, but the path we are taking is the right one.”
