New Fiorentina signing Joshua Brillante has revealed that he’s willing to do whatever it takes to help the Gigliati succeed.

The 21-year-old, who signed with the Viola from Australian side Newcastle Jets in July, is grateful for the warm welcome he has received since his arrival in Florence and has insisted that he’s ready to fully commit himself to the team in order to win and please coach Vincenzo Montella.

Brillante spoke during his official presentation press conference about his objectives for his debut season with Fiorentina and thanked the club and its fans for all of their support already, while also commenting on his preferred position on the pitch and some of his idols.

“I wanted to thank the fans and the city for all of the support,” said the Australian midfielder. “It has been fantastic and it will make my adaptation here a lot easier.

“Do I have any Italian footballing idols? When I was in Australia I grew up watching [Alessandro] Del Piero, so for me it was a great thing for him to come and play in Australia especially when I got to play against him.

“The arrival of a player like him has been such a big boost for everyone in Australian football.

“My expectations for the upcoming season? Coming to Italy from Australia is a big step, so I hope that I have the opportunity to play and I’ll do anything to help this team succeed.

“The locker room? I was very impressed by the welcome that the team gave me, the boys welcomed me very well and it has been easy to adapt here.

“Montella? For now he hasn’t told me anything in particular, just that I’ll have to fully commit myself in order to become a regular player in his squad.

“My Australian footballing idol? There are many players who have inspired me, the first is [Harry] Kewell, he’s the first to go outside the normal boundaries.

“My favourite role? I have always played as a midfielder from an early age, so my preferred position would be anywhere in the midfield.

“However, in recent times I have been tried as a full-back, but my favourite role is midfielder.”
