Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has praised Roma striker Mattia Destro for his talents on the pitch and claims that he was even able to see the player’s potential in the past at Inter.

The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Blues as of late especially now that Fernando Torres has made his exit for AC Milan and it seems the tactician would still be open to reuniting with the Italian in the closing days of the summer transfer window if possible.

Mourinho spoke to the Daily Mirror about Destro’s striking ability and insisted that the Roma man even managed to shine without being a starting player at Inter.

“Mattia was only a kid when I was at Inter,” said the 51-year-old. “He was around 18-years-old and playing with the Primavera team, but would train with us a lot.

“Everyone at the club knew that he had the potential to become a top striker. However, he was unlucky because we had Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Adriano, then Samuel Eto’o and Diego Milito.

“With so much talent in the attack, it was hard for him to find space in the first team.”
