Matteo Darmian said the satisfaction of the Torino fans at the club overcoming RNK Split in the Europa League made it a special night at the Olimpico.

A first half strike from Omar El Kaddouri secured the Granata’s spot in the Europa League group stages – for the first time in the history of the club.

A beaming Darmian toldĀ MediasetĀ afterwards: “It has given us so much satisfaction to see the stadium cheer like they did, a fantastic emotion for us.

“We created so much and probably should not have made it so difficult for ourselves and could probably have killed the game off before the end.”

He added: “We created so many good chances but one of the strengths of this group is that we know how to suffer and come through it.”

The Italy international also hopes the future of teammate Alessio Cerci is resolved and unsurprisingly, he is hoping that the attacker will remain.

“Cerci is a great player and would be important for any team,” he said. “For now, he is still our player but we will see what happens in the next four days.

“We could certainly be pleased if the club can keep him.”
