Inter president Erick Thohir has lived up to promises and has cut the clubs wage bill by 25% in the space of a season.

Thohir became Inter president in November 2013 but in the space of two transfer windows has led to a massive cut in player wages, as the likes of Diego Milito, Esteban Cambiasso and Cristian Chivu have all left the club during his tenure.

And a report in Tuttosport have revealed the depth of the cuts in recent years, as the €170 million wage bill from the treble winning season of 2010/2011 has been reduced to just under €75m for the 2014/15 season, with this number liable to fall even more with departures.

In an interesting comparison, the top earners in the 2010/11 season was striker Samuel Eto’o, who earned a staggering €10.5m a year, followed by Wesley Sneijder who followed close behind with his massive €6m a year wages.

Even last season, in which the club spent €100m on wages alone, the Nerazzurri’s two top earners were veteran Argentines Diego Milito, with his €5m a year wage packet, and Esteban Cambiasso, who brought in €4.5m in his last season in Milan.

The comparison with the current squad is stark, with the club spending around €75m in total on wages, with Hernanes, Rodrigo Palacio and new signing Nemanja Vidic all earning €3m a year, as Thohir’s aim to spend withing Inter’s means comes into full effect.

The new wage structure has even been seen in new signings with Yann M’Vila having to take a pay cut of around €1.2m a season as his wage drops from €3m to €1.8m, while newly arrived forward Pablo Osvaldo has agreed to drop his pay from €3.5m to €2m gross.
