Lippi and Prandelli - ItalyFormer Italy coach Marcello Lippi has backed newly instated Italian boss Antonio Conte to succeed at the helm of the Azzurri.

Lippi, who is in charge of Asian champion Guangzhou Evergrande, went on to rebuff comparisons made between him and Conte insisting that they are not valid at this point.

“These parallels are not right,” he told La Gazzetta Sportiva.

“I was 56 years of age and I came into the role after a great period with Juve.

“He [Conte] on the other hand is beginning ten years younger. I wouldn’t say that he has merely begun, and his start has in fact been wonderful, but he still has a long career ahead of him. I only hope his run of results remain the same.”

The 66-year-old tactician offered some words of advice for his counterpart when questioned.

“To him I would say not to change your style that has brought you so many amazing results with Juve.”
