AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has claimed the Rossoneri came close to signing Fernando Torres in 2007.

Having been declared a Rossoneri player on Friday, Torres will be at the San Siro on a two-year loan from Chelsea, and Galliani has wanted the Spaniard for some time.

Speaking to the press, he stated that a €37 million price tag had prevented the transfer from Atletico Madrid, with the forward instead moving to English giants Liverpool.

While 70-year-old Galliani may consider it seven years in the making, he did indicate that in the final days of the transfer window Milan always sign a big name player.

“These are the ‘Three Days of the Condor’, and we always hit,” he said. “We are satisfied. [In 2007] it would have cost €37 million. Now, we did it [for free].”

The 30-year-old striker joins a Milan strike-force that includes Stephan El Shaarawy and Giampaolo Pazzini, and will wear the No. 9 shirt.

Milan begin their Serie A campaign on Sunday at home to Lazio.
