Roma coach Rudi Garcia has said that Fiorentina is the right opponent for his team to play against the opening round of Serie A.

The Giallorossi play the Viola on Saturday night and Garcia believes that the opening game will give an indication as to how strong Roma are.

“[Saturday’s] game is ideal for us to understand where we are at,” Garcia said in a pre-match press conference.

“Fiorentina have a positive attitude, we are two squads of an excellent level and for me it is the best way to start the championship.”

The general mood has been negative since Roma were drawn in a tough UEFA Champions League group but Garcia told the press that playing well is Roma’s main goal this season.

“It is easily for moments of euphoria to go away in moments of doubt. We however don’t depend on the general mood,” Garcia said.

“We are conscious of our power and of the fact that we must play with enthusiasm to give joy to our fans.

“This is the principle objective of Roma.”
